Ronel Jordaan | South-African Wool Pebbles

Ronel Jordaan | South-African Wool Pebbles

In 2004, Ronel Jordaan, having been a textile designer for 26 years, began researching the possibilities of using felt as a creative medium. Entirely selftaught and following her own creative instincts, she began to turn fine gossamer thread into robust felted forms. By patiently rubbing and coaxing threads of pure wool into shapes in nature that inspire her, she found her direction and started a small home industry. Next she trained a handful of women to help her. Recognized for their originality and design uniqueness, her creations found an immediate market. Ronel launched her range at the Design Indaba in Cape Town in Febrary 2005. From there she hasn't looked back and is still making waves with her unique processes and imaginative designs. Ronél was nominated as one of South Africa’s Top Ten Designers by VISI magazine for 2006, and won an EDIDA for best soft furnishings for 2005. Most recently she recived an award of excellence at the SIDIM exhibition held in Motreal Canada in May of this year. Ronél’s products have been in magazines such as Li Edelkoort’s Bloom, VISI ,and Elle Décor. Her products are currently being exported to, Europe, America, Canada , Australia and the UK.
