A New Form for an Old Craft

A new form for an old craft. Exclusive handbags, crafted by hand, in one seamless form. Kim van Beek is founder of the buddhi label ( 2008.) The bags of the buddhi label are a crossover between culture, fashion, and innovation in traditional crafts. The collection “ NO machines BY HAND” and “ Hidden Culture” are designed by Kim van Beek and produced by “the Association for Craft producers in Nepal. Fair trade. Buddhi’s philosophy is to design innovative fashion items based on (traditional) Asian cultures and crafts. The bags are made in a factory in Kathmandu with over twenty years of felt experience, to ensure a high quality felt. Felt is a strong material, water resistant, which lasts for many years. It is made out of wool. With water, olive soap, pressure and movements of the hands, one creates the fabric felt. With the buddhi label Kim van Beek aims to build a bridge between the craftmen’s strength and creating a new style of felt bags. In 2008 and 2011 she worked a month in the factory ion Nepal to develop the collections. In the years in between she mastered the crafty of felting.
