Pia Wustenberg | Stacking Vessels

Pia Wustenberg | Stacking Vessels

Pia Wustenberg was born in Germany in 1986 and grew up with dual nationality (Finnish mother, German father). Pia has a unique mix of education in design, materials and art. She first studied Glass, Ceramic and Metal Design at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, followed by an undergraduate in Furniture Design and Craftsmanship at Bucks New University. From 2009-11 Pia returned to London to join the Design Products Department at the Royal College of Arts. She now has her own studio in East London. Her work is all about materialising stories: juxtapositions of materials, surfaces, textures, symbols and colors unfold to tell new stories through objects, just as letters and words make up the stories in a book. Her Creative thinking is determined by its surrounding culture and environment. She believes a curious and observing mind is the main medium in a designer’s toolbox. Her current research is concerned with urbanisation as a critical step in cultural evolution. The constant multitude of object experiences and encounters is at its peak in urban environments. Our needs and desires are changing with an accelerating pace: in parallel the sensitivity and awareness for these complex, subtle changes in individuals and across cultures has to grow in the design field.
