Whistler by Amorim | Cork Portugese Design

Whistler by Amorim | Cork Portugese Design

The Soul Mate collection of Amorim is part of the MoMa Design Store’s (Museum of Modern Art, New York) and is the result of a joint venture between Amorim and Matceramica. Cork and earthenware get together in a collection that explores the potential of the Portuguese deep tradition on these materials within the universe of contemporary domestic needs. Physical and emotional characteristics of both materials such as the wide colour range of earthenware, the soft texture and lightness of cork, the glaze and transparency of earthenware in contrast with the opacity of cork, play a determinant role in the uniqueness of this collection. "The Whistler" is the biggest and one of the oldest cork oak trees in the world and it's located in the Portugese region of Alentejo. This special tree now gives name to this product range: a tea set in which cork embraces earthenware just like it embraces the wood in the cork oak tree, and shapes are inspired by the traditional pottery of Alentejo. Designed by Raquel Castro.
